Modern Arnis (Filipino Stick Fighting) Modern Arnis is a Filipino martial art which emphasizes self-defense against various weapons. It is a very practical art like Kenpo. It teaches how to defend against an armed or unarmed attacker. Arnis utilizes two 25” rattan sticks in many of its techniques. Knife and stick disarms, and stick methods of defensive and offensive skills, etc. are taught and reviewed in all classes. As in Kenpo, Modern Arnis includes basics, self-defense techniques, katas and free sparring. The principles and concepts of empty hand and stick techniques translate and apply very well to Kenpo and all martial arts. In particular, your co-ordination, reactions, timing, strength, control, and “flow” from one technique to another will be enhanced. One of the big things you will find while training in Modern Arnis classes is that it will develop the “feel” in both your right and left hands. Also, the ability to “switch” from defensive to offensive techniques will become very natural with time. Modern Arnis is a Great Is it Safe? YES!!! And FUN!!!
