AMERICAN KARATE STUDIOS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE!

Before you settle for anything less than the best, examine the American Karate difference. We're certain that you'll find our facilities, teachers and programs beyond compare.

EXCEPTIONAL FACILITIES

American Karate Studios has been in Delaware since 1970, and located at its present location, 16 Polly Drummond Center, since 1978. We're established. We are the one of the largest and premier martial arts schools in the United States.  Our state-of-the-art facility has over 10,000 square feet (it's BIG) with ten classrooms and four separate changing rooms. We feature special observation areas designed for parents and friends to be able to watch ongoing classes in comfort without interfering or distracting the students.

GREAT CLASS SCHEDULES

We offer literally hundreds of classes and private lessons each week.  All of our classes are divided into specific age groups:  Dyna-Tot (30 minute classes for ages 31/2 - 6); Juniors (ages 6 -12); Teens; and, adults (for both men and women).  Within the adult age group classes we offer Kenpo Karate, Aerobic Kickboxing, Tai Chi, and Filipino Stick Fighting.  We will help you find the best program for you keeping your needs and benefits desired in mind.  You can even combine classes (disciplines) to fit your goals and interests.

TEACHERS AND DIRECTORS

Our staff is second to none!  After you have read through this section, go to the button on the left and click on the "teachers" for more information.  But, remember that Jim Clapp (8th Degree Black Belt) and Judy Anderson O'Neill (7th Degree Black Belt) have had one of the top schools in the country over the past 35 plus years...that's three (3) decades!  And John Sarmousakis (7th Degree Black Belt) is our Program Director that has been with AKS since the 1970's...Plus, we have many other Black Belt Teachers who are excellent.  They keep our vision of serving our students in mind at all times.  Plus, maintain a safe and positive attitude in the classroom.  Because of them, we have created what many call the "Disney Dojo".

SOUNDS GREAT!  HOW DO I GET STARTED NOW?

Well, we start all our Dyna-Tots (ages 3 1/2 to 6) with (3) Introductory 30-minute beginner classes.  This will give the teacher, the parents and the child an evaluation time to see if the child is mentally, emotionally and physically ready to take the classes.

The parents watch the classes through a one-way mirror in our observation area.  This will allow the child to learn and practice without being distracted by mom and dad.  It also promotes peer interaction without worrying whether s/he is pleasing mom or dad.  The teacher can then teach and work with the child to determine strengths and weaknesses.

During the Introductory period, a Program Director will explain our programs and class schedules to fit your needs.  Enrollment procedures will be covered at this time.

It is as easy as that!

For Children (ages 6 to 12), Teens and Adults, we set up (2) Private 30-minute Introductory Lessons.  These can be scheduled at mutually convenient times.  If a student or parent is unsure at the end of this time, we will give him or her 'extra' classes as needed to help make sure this commitment to excellence is exactly what s/he had in mind.

Please note:  For those interested in Tai Chi, Filipino Stick Fighting, or Fitness Kickboxing, the Introductory Program is basically the same.

During this evaluation period, the teacher will introduce some of the martial arts protocol, basics (blocks, punches and kicks), self-defense techniques, and the proper way to practice.  Also, exercises to increase flexibility and strength will be covered.

We want to show the student that s/he can do it...that it is safe...and fun!  Also, the teacher will give a 'progress report' on the student's abilities.

We want the parents (if it is an Introductory Lesson for a child) to watch and / or participate.  In this way the parents will get a 'feel' for how we teach, what we teach and the receptivity of their child, both emotionally and physically.  Plus learn a few 'moves' along the way.

After the 2nd Lesson, our Program Director will have a conference with all involved.  During this time, he will explain the available programs that will fit your needs; and, go over the beginner class schedule and work out times that will best suit you.

Our professional staff, with its winning attitude, is so sure you will enjoy this experience that we are offering you a totally free Introductory Program.  All you have to do is give us a Call at (302) 737-9500 or just Click on the "FREE INTRODUCTORY PROGRAM" here or to the right.
