THE
ART OF KENPO KARATE
American Karate Studios has been teaching the art of Kenpo Karate in Delaware since 1970. The school has grown to its present enrollment of approximately 350 men, women and children, ranging in age from 3 1/2 to 67. The Executive Directors, Jim Clapp and Judy Anderson O'Neill, have dedicated themselves to having the finest Martial Arts’ school in the nation. Kenpo Karate (fist law or law of the fist) is a modern, innovative, eclectic Martial Art system, which draws on secret Martial Arts knowledge of the past, adapting and incorporating relevant principles and techniques for now and the future, suitable for a wide variety of individuals. The system begins with basic stances, blocks, punches, strikes, and kicks; progresses to self-defense techniques (pre-arranged movements against specific attacks);and, then to katas (forms) which are a series of self-defense techniques linked together in specific patterns. It employs linear as well as circular moves, utilizing intermittent power when and where needed, interspersed with minor and major moves that flow with continuity. Kenpo is flexible in thought and action so as to blend with encounters as they occur. There is a belt ranking system used to reward progress in individuals, beginning with white belt and advancing through yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, 3 degrees of brown and ten degrees of black belt. |
